iOS 4.0.1 is now available to iPhone owners, aiming to fix iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G signal meter. Apple claims that this new patch “improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display,” after announcing that they had been using the wrong calculation.
In short, it’s a visual fix to the iPhone 4‘s attenuation problems. That and the fact that you’ll still be dropping calls.

Microsoft releases Windows 7 Service Pack 1 BETA

Microsoft has made the BETA release of Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 publicly available to TechNet, BizSpark and MSDN subscribers.
If you’re eager on testing the latest build for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, head to the MSDN download page. Otherwise (if you’re a consumer), just wait for the final version.
No new features will be brought to Windows 7 in the upcoming service pack, just bug fixes and general improvements. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, on the other hand, brings Virtual Desktop Infrastructure enhancements that enable hardware-accelerated 3D graphics and video playback over a Remote Desktop Connection.

Mozilla has released Firefox 4 beta 1, the first public, stable version of its next major browser. 4.1 features a brand new UI with tabs on top (reminiscent of Chrome) but adds more HTML5 support as well as Google’s new WebM open video standard. Another improvement is that plugins are now both easier to manage and no longer need a browser restart to load.
