Canon announces EOS 600D / T3i

Canon announces EOS 600D / T3i

Canon rolls out the update to it’s midrange dSLR range, the Canon EOS 600D / T3i.  It features an 18-megapixel sensor, full HD 1080p video recording.  Sounds familiar?  Yep, you bet, that’s the same spec as Canon’s 2010 midrange DSLR model, the Canon EOS 550D / T2i.  Seems like Canon is sticking to it’s yearly incremental updates for this particular line of camera which is both a good thing and a bad thing (especially if you’ve just bought a 550D).

Looking at the spec sheet, yes, they’re basically the same cameras with minor differences to set them apart (hence an incremental update).  What sets the 600D apart is the vari-angled LCD similar to the EOS 60D and Nikon D5000, Built-in wireless flash control and several software improvements taken from the 60D like Basic+, a creative imaging function which makes it easier to create the desired image effects when shooting a scene.

Canon has unveiled the successor to it’s 1000D entry level DSLR, the Canon T3 or Canon EOS 1100D. The EOS 1100D is equipped with a 12MP CMOS sensor and Digic 4 processor, allowing it to record 720p HD video. It features a 9-point AF sensor previously used in more expensive models and the iFCL color-sensitive metering sensor similar to it’s bigger brother, the EOS 7D.

Aside from improvements on the camera, the EOS 1100D’s kit lens also receives an upgrade, with the new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Il.

Sony Ericsson announces Xperia Play launch date

Sony Ericsson announces XperiaPlay launch date

After the long wait, Sony has finally acknowledged the existence of the Xperia Play AKA PlayStation Phone (or PSP Phone) with the slogan “Android is ready to play.” A fitting mantra if I ever heard one. Still, official technical details are still kept mum until Mobile World Congress event on February 13 so this is more than just a paper announcement (lol, not even a paper launch?).

Opera Browser coming to a Sony Product near you

Sony and Opera have teamed up to spice up your living room-bound web browsing experience by integrating the Opera Web Browser into Sony BRAVIA televisions and Blu-ray Disc (TM) players (no word if this includes the PS3).

Of course, having Opera on your device won’t replace the one on your PC/smartphone/laptop with the support of a mouse/trackpad/touchscreen, but it’s a positive development considering we spend most of our time online. Just think, no more handing over your PC just so your friends/relatives/etc need to check or update their facebook status. Now with that in mind, will it support flash (for farmville-y folks)? No word on that yet but we’ll update as soon as more info is out.

Dropbox gives away additional 1GB storage via DropQuest 2011

I personally love the digital storage service that is Dropbox. It allows you to store files online and sync them up with all your computers, regardless of platform, share files publicly or privately (with other dropbox users) and more.

To celebrate and of course reward their users, Dropbox has started an online scavenger hunt to reward us with an additional GB of storage. For the next two weeks, you can simply hop in the quest answering questions, solve puzzles, and poking around the entire drop box site and earning additional storage for your Dropbox account.

Now, one gig isn’t really that much but since free accounts get just 2GB initially, it’s a great way to boost your account and entertain yourself at the same time.

HowTo: Disable/Remove Gmail Web Clips/Ads

HowTo: Disable/Remove Gmail Web Clips/Ads

Gmail has become the defacto email service for most of us online netizens, but at times, Web Clips, the rotating ads/RSS reader atop your emails can be annoying.  Yes it’s just a single line of text, whereas other email services give you half a screen of ads to look, but its always nice to have the option to keep your email account as clean as possible.

What does Google Mail Web Clips actually display?  As mentioned earlier, Web clips auto-rotates content as you’re browsing your gmail account, displaying contents from RSS feeds, Google Ads, Gmail tips, and custom contents.

Nvidia ships One Billionth GeForce chip

2011 is shaping up to be a good year for Nvidia as the company reaches the one billionth GeForce GPU milestone mark. Note that the achievement states 1 billion GPUs shipped, not just manufactured.

Who knows how many chips Nvidia currently has :) .

Nvidia sends it’s thanks to everyone of it’s customers and to it’s new partner, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

The company shares a few interesting facts about the size of 1 billion GPUs:

If you lined the chips all up in a row

* They would wrap around the world more than twice
* They’d stretch across 315,000 American Football fields or 275,000 Soccer fields
* You’d need the entire population of Shanghai, China standing on each others’ shoulders to match it

Now if only Nvidia offered a price drop to celebrate I’ll switch in no time :) .
