YouTube videos now 15 minutes long

An increase in YouTube‘s maximum video length is one of the site’s most requested features and today, Joshua Siegel, product manager for upload and video management, announces just that.
The limit for Youtube videos are now 15 minutes long.
In a blog post, Siegel writes that the ability to upload longer videos has been “without question, the number one requested feature” from users, The limit increase is said to be due to recent improvements to the site’s Content ID system.

“Now, all of the major U.S. movie studios, music labels and over 1,000 other global partners use Content ID to manage their content on YouTube,” he said. “Because of the success of these ongoing technological efforts, we are able to increase the upload limit today.”

To promote the new upload limit, YouTube is holding a contest called “15 Minutes of Fame.” If you’re interested in participating, just create a video showing the world what would you want to communicate. What will be the enduring stamp you’ve left on us all?

The deadline for the “15 Minutes of Fame” contest is August 4. Just be sure to tag it “yt15minutes” and the winners will have their videos featured on the YouTube homepage at some point in the future.
